All about my Parent Coaching services

Parent coaching by Ola Amin

Introduction

In a time where there is so much information out there, it can be overwhelming to know what will work for you and your family.

This is where a Parent Coach comes in! I offer friendly, professional, knowledgeable services to help you create a calm connection and presence in your parenting.

Parent coaching is not about fixing your child; it’s about helping you grow into the best possible person you can be as a parent.

And if we’re successful at that, then our kids will learn how to take care of themselves too!

During these sessions, we work on specific skills that will allow you to navigate domestic issues related to children during this non-judgmental setting with psychoeducation and evidence-based strategy.

What Is Parent Coaching?

Parent coaching helps you develop the skills and resources you need to become your child’s biggest advocate.

Coaching is a dynamic conversation in which the coach facilitates your learning and growth.

The parent coaching relationship is a collaborative relationship in which I am committed to helping you be more effective as a parent.

During our sessions together, we’ll examine your child’s expressed and unexpressed needs within the context of family life.

How do I help parents?

I work with my clients to set goals, develop action plans, and offer encouragement throughout the journey of parenting.

My goal is to make you feel confident in your abilities as a parent and help you develop the skills necessary to reach those goals.

Together we will create a plan that aligns with your parenting goals, values, and beliefs.

Parenting strategies are unique to each family, and the aim is to help you reduce conflict between you and your child(ren) while increasing cooperation.

My goal as a parent coach is for parents to feel more confident in their parenting abilities and realize that their family’s successes are theirs to celebrate.

I work with parents on strategies to improve their family dynamics and relationships while also providing guidance in conflict management, reducing stress, improving time management skills, etc.

Parents are the primary caregiver for their children and therefore have more daily opportunities to shape their child’s behavior through positive reinforcement.

This is why parents must have the skills necessary to manage challenging behavior, effectively communicate with their child(ren), and create a safe environment where they can thrive.

Together we will:

  • Identify specific areas of strengths and concerns
  • Create a plan to address concerns
  • Implement the plan and support you as needed

How Is Parent Coaching Different Than Other Counseling Options?

My role is very different from that of your child’s therapist or teacher.

I will not give you specific parenting tips or tricks. However, it’s essential to understand that my role is to help you look at the bigger picture of how your behaviors are impacting your child.

My coaching sessions are 1:1 and private, tailored to meet your needs.

Parent coaching is not therapy.

A parent coach will not provide therapy services to solve your child’s behaviors but instead will work with you to change your relationship with your child(ren) to help them feel safe and secure enough to self-regulate.

When you feel confident in your parenting abilities, then communication with your children will improve exponentially.

A parenting coach doesn’t make judgments about you or your parenting style.

This means that you can be yourself and feel totally safe revealing all of your fears, worries, and insecurities without fear that I will judge you.

Coaching is a judgment-free zone!

In addition to helping with parenting dilemmas, your coach will also work with you on life-management skills to help you feel less stressed and more confident.

You’ll learn strategies for managing time, tasks, daily routines, family resources, self-care, and more.

A parent coach does not diagnose or treat mental issues and doesn’t prescribe medications.

About the Parent coaching institute (PCI) Model

I am a PCI Certified Parent Coach®.

Gloria DeGaetano is the one who created the Parent coaching institute Model, and she based it o 30 years of experience and research into what makes for successful childhood development.

Gloria created this model to help parents become more confident in their abilities as parents to create safe environments where their children can thrive.

The Parent coaching institute (PCI) Model

Parenting as a living system:

As in all living systems, parenting is based on relationships and connections.

As your child grows and develops, so do you as the parent.

You are not the only one growing during this time! Your child(ren) are also maturing and developing their own sense of self.

The functional ecology of parenting:

The ecology of parenting involves the functioning relationships between you, your child(ren), and the environment surrounding you.

Brain-compatible parenting:

The PCI model is meant to challenge you to consider your parenting in a way that encourages the development of both parent and child’s brains.

It’s based on research about how our development as humans impacts our brain chemistry and how we develop into who we become.

Appreciative inquiry:

Whenever possible, I encourage parents to focus on the things they are already doing well in their parenting while at the same time having them create new ways of acting to find a balance that is more productive for your growth as a family system.

What happens in a parent coaching session?

I follow The 5-D’s appreciative inquiry process, which is as follows

Definition Phase:

In the Definition phase, we discuss all the challenges you are dealing with. Again! It’s an opportunity for you to feel seen and heard without judgment.

We talk about what is frustrating you, how often it happens, and what coping strategies you may already be using with some success.

I also look at the roles you play in your family, for example, how children often take on a role-based upon their temperament or due to circumstances such as loss from divorce.

Discovery Phase:

In the discovery phase, I am curious about understanding all of your strengths and what is working for you.

We will work together to discover your natural strengths and how you use these skills already in parenting.

This is about seeing all the things you are doing well so that you won’t be lost in what you feel you need to improve.

Dream Phase

This is the phase where we discover your dreams, ideals, and goals.

What does it look like if you get everything you want?

We tap into your creativity and imagination to create the parenting vision that will enable you to live your dreams.

Do you want to be the parent who knows how to handle a meltdown calmly? Do you want to listen and find out what’s really going on?

What kind of parent do you want to be for your kids? What does that look like?

I always say that you can’t win a race if you don’t know where the finish line is.

Design Phase:

In this phase, we review what was discussed in the previous sessions and identify specific action steps and resources that will help.

We then create an action plan to help you reach your goals. We will focus on what you want to work on and the steps to be taken to get there.

I use my coaching experience, training, and knowledge to help you create ideas that will help you develop solutions for your unique situation.

We work together to create a strategy for you to use, and most importantly, we do it!

As with all skills you have learned, I will be there every step of the way. It’s essential to have someone who will listen to you, encourage, offer insight when needed, hold you accountable, and keep you on track.

I am here for you!

Destiny Phase

In this coaching session, we review what has gone well and where there is room for improvement.

We work together to maintain momentum and ensure that you continue to grow as a parent.

Reviewing your goals at this stage will help determine if new goals need to be created or old ones tweaked/changed.

What happens after a coaching session?

I tend to give you small exercises to practice between sessions.

This ensures that the new skills are becoming automatic and strong so that you can use them well in real-life situations.

I always tell my clients that coaching is not a magic pill; it’s what you do between sessions that makes all the difference!

Another benefit of these exercises is that they provide me with more information about where you need to focus or what specific skill set needs to be honed for your goals to become a reality.

Regular practice of the skills will help them become second nature to you and allow you to gain confidence in yourself as a parent who knows how to handle different situations your family encounters.

What will happen after your Parent Coaching Sessions are over?

I want to ensure that you will continue to utilize what we have learned.

By following some simple guidelines, you can maintain the progress made while using these skills for the rest of your life.

After coaching, I recommend setting up some scheduled check-ins with yourself.

Having scheduled times to reflect on what you are doing well and areas you need to improve is a great way to start this process.

The goal is never mastery; it’s about continuing to learn.

Is Parent Coaching Effective?

Parent coaching is effective because it creates a safe place for parents to explore their feelings and behaviors to improve their connection with their children.

Parenting can be difficult, but it doesn’t have to be.
